A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has responded to criticism from members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the party’s challenges in securing a venue for its recent convention in Abuja.
In a video shared by AIT News, Melaye explained that he is very familiar with the process of booking major public venues in the Federal Capital Territory, especially Eagle Square. He noted that his past role as chairman of the Senate Committee on the FCT gave him strong experience in handling such matters long before the current administration led by Nyesom Wike.
According to him, the ADC followed the proper steps by applying for Eagle Square but was denied access. The party also attempted to use the velodrome, but that request was also turned down. As a result, they decided to move the event to a private venue.
However, Melaye claimed that the owners of the private venue were pressured and threatened with possible loss of their license if they allowed the event to go on. This, he said, forced the organizers to stop preparations despite already setting up the venue.
He criticized those mocking the ADC, arguing that the issue was not about a lack of planning but external interference. Melaye insisted that the party understands the procedures involved and should not be treated as inexperienced.
In his words, “I’ve been chairman Senate committee on FCT, and I’ve been a member of the conventions committee, year in year out. Even before Wike came to Abuja, I knew the procedure for the use of Eagles Square.”…..See More
