Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, in an interview with The SUN criticized Nigeria’s electoral system, calling it distasteful and disgusting.
When asked about what might happen to his party if the Supreme Court did not quickly hear their case, he said that while the start of a crisis can be known, its outcome cannot be predicted. He questioned why the court would refuse to hear their case, pointing out that similar cases had been fast-tracked and decided by the Supreme Court in the past.
He also wondered why their own case was being treated differently and what message that would send to Nigerians and the international community. He added that in some cases, judges have faced punishment from foreign countries, including visa restrictions, due to questionable decisions. However, he said he believed the court would eventually hear the case because that is its duty.
He further said: “And I am begging, I am appealing to my sister, who comes from Lagos and is now the head of the judiciary. Her father was an outstanding man. Let her ensure that she continues the goodwill, the goodness, the civility exercised by her father of whom we said, ‘Ah, we are proud of this man.’ Let her not disown the glory established by that Baba.”
He added that the person had once been chairman of City Hall Local Government and said she should not abandon the legacy of that respected figure. He also stressed that the people’s will should be respected and that she had sworn to uphold the constitution, not to serve any individual.
He said she is currently the Chief Justice and will one day leave the position, and asked what kind of legacy she would want to be remembered for.
