During an interview on News Central TV on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Henry Shield, a political analyst, criticized Nigeria’s opposition leaders, arguing that they should take more decisive action in response to what he described as growing political challenges under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Shield expressed concern over what he perceived as the increasing influence of the ruling party on state institutions. He argued that opposition figures had relied too heavily on public statements instead of coordinated political action, urging them to adopt a more proactive approach.
According to him, “I will be giving you verifiable instances to show you that Tinubu has hijacked the whole country. Let us stop pretending. Atiku, stop pretending. Peter Obi, stop pretending. Kwankwaso, Amaechi, stop pretending. Enough of your unserious press statement. It is time to come out and confront Tinubu.”
The political analyst also questioned the conduct of some public officials, citing what he described as the appearance of a serving commissioner of police at a political event. He argued that security agencies and other state institutions should remain neutral and avoid actions that could create the perception of partisanship.
