According to a report by Daily Post, on Thursday July 23, 2026, Senator Rufai Sani Hanga has strongly criticized former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over claims that he was prevented from contesting for political office because of concerns about his age and health.
Hanga expressed disappointment with the reasons allegedly given for denying him the opportunity to seek elective positions, the former senator, who was once a close ally of Kwankwaso and a prominent member of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, said the explanations were unfair and politically motivated.
According to Hanga, references to his age and physical condition were used to sideline him from participating in electoral contests, including opportunities to seek the position of deputy governor and return to the Senate, he argued that such reasons lacked merit and should not be used to determine a person’s ability to serve in public office.
The former lawmaker maintained that he remains physically fit and capable of carrying out political responsibilities, he insisted that his health condition has not affected his performance or ability to contribute effectively to public service, he said his leg problem has never prevented him from carrying out legislative duties and should not be used against him in political matters.
He challenged comparisons involving age, noting that he is younger than Kwankwaso, he argued that age alone should not be a factor in deciding whether a politician is qualified to contest for office, he pointed out that many politicians continue to serve in important positions despite advancing age, provided they remain capable of performing their duties.
