Yoruba Nollywood actress Omobolarinde Akinyanju, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, has shared her thoughts on marriage and independence.
Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV the actress reflected on her past experiences, including her previous marriage to Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, with whom she has two children.
Akinyanju revealed that she had always valued her freedom and independence. She avoided marriage earlier in life because she did not want a man to start controlling her.
Unlike some young women who may choose to live with their partners before tying the knot, she had never cohabited with a man prior to her marriage. Maintaining control over her life and decisions, she said, was always a priority.
The actress also reflected on her marriage to Portable, describing it as a time that brought both lessons and blessings.
While acknowledging the challenges, she said the singer contributed positively to her acting career as he was supportive both financially and emotionally.
In her words: “When they talk about marriage, it wasn’t part of my plan because I’m someone who doesn’t like being troubled.
