Yoruba Nollywood actor and popular skit maker Kehinde Ganiyu, better known as Ijoba Lande, has shared a candid and heartfelt revelation about his humble beginnings before rising to fame in the entertainment industry.
Speaking in an interview with fellow actor Jeff Omolewa on YouTube, the actor reflected on a challenging period around 2010 when he struggled to provide for himself and his wife.
At the time, he worked as a night security guard, earning a monthly salary of N18,000, an amount he said was barely sufficient to meet basic needs.
Determined to make ends meet, the actor sought additional sources of income while maintaining his overnight shifts.
He discovered that rainfall created an unexpected business opportunity. Whenever it rained, snails would emerge in large numbers, and he began collecting them during his patrol hours.
What started as a simple observation soon became a steady side hustle.
Depending on the quantity gathered, Lande said he could earn between N7,000 and N8,000 per sale, and on particularly productive nights, as much as N11,000.
Compared to his monthly salary at the time, the additional income significantly eased financial pressure in his household.
In his words: “I once worked as a security guard for me and my wife just to see something to eat. So whenever I’m on duty at night, I usually pray for rain to fall so that I can see snails. Depending on the amount of snails I gather I usually sell them for around N7,000, N8,000 and even some as high as N11,000 which is a good amount as it helps with my N18,000 salary.
