The Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has shared a personal story about his early life, revealing why he declined an opportunity to study in the United States despite his father’s encouragement.
Dokubo made the remarks during a video shared on Facebook on Saturday, July 18, 2026, where he reflected on his upbringing, personal convictions, and some of the decisions that shaped his life.
In his statement, he recounted a conversation with his father regarding his education and explained why he chose not to pursue studies abroad.
He said, “My father asked me to go to America for school, and I replied, ‘No, I’m not going,'” describing it as a decision he made based on his personal convictions at the time.
According to him, life presents individuals with opportunities that require difficult choices, and those decisions often influence the direction of their future.
Dokubo further explained that while many people viewed studying abroad as a significant opportunity, he believed it was important to follow the path he felt was right for him rather than simply meeting the expectations of others.
He also noted that every individual has the freedom to make personal decisions regarding education and career, provided those choices are made with careful consideration and a sense of purpose.
