A woman identified as Gloria Nmama has emotionally recounted her prolonged custody battle with her ex-husband, alleging that he forcefully took their son away from her despite her sacrifices during childbirth and the child’s early upbringing.
Speaking during an appearance on the Brekete Family programme aired on Human Rights Radio and Television, Gloria explained that she single-handedly carried much of the burden surrounding the birth and care of their son.
She said: “I gave birth to my son through CS and my husband didn’t pay for it, but he took him away from me.”
Gloria lamented that despite her efforts and sacrifices as a mother, her ex-husband allegedly took the child away from her and has denied her access to him for several years.
She stated that the separation reportedly began on June 9, 2015, after the child was removed from her care.
According to her testimony, her former partner accused her of infidelity and allegedly used cultural and spiritual threats to justify keeping the child away from her.
Gloria also claimed that her ex-husband warned that the child could die if he accepted food or anything directly from her hands, a statement she described as emotionally devastating.
She further alleged that she was pressured to undergo traditional cleansing rites and sacrifices before she could regain access to her son.
The woman expressed frustration that despite seeking help through legal and governmental channels over the years, she has remained separated from the child she raised.
