According to a recent video by Kaa Truth, veteran Nollywood actor Ugezu J. Ugezu declared his rejection of Christianity in favour of African traditional religion. “I may be a Christian by birth, but I am an African traditionalist as I speak, and I want to remain that way because it is the best way for me,” Ugezu stated.
He described traditional spirituality as nondiscriminatory, without greed or hatred, and accepting of all.
Ugezu also criticised Nigeria’s religious culture, arguing that prayer without hard work yields no success. He noted that while Nigerians celebrate “Happy New Month” rituals heavily, other Africans do so less.
He blamed poor leadership, not religion, as Nigeria’s core problem, adding that individuals remain stronger than institutions. On faith, he insisted every person’s religious revelation deserves respect, saying, “Nobody has any right to talk down on anybody’s religion.” The actor concluded that godliness means nothing should stand between a person and their maker.
