A woman, Amina Akinola, has approached the Justice Court, presided over by Justice Funmi Asaolu, seeking an order compelling her estranged husband, Emmanuel Akinola, to provide financial support for the upkeep of their three children.
Testifying before the court, Amina said she and Emmanuel had been married since 2011 but had been separated since 2024 after he allegedly sent her back to her family, saying he was no longer interested in the marriage.
She alleged that the marriage was marked by domestic violence, emotional abuse, repeated infidelity and the birth of several children outside their union. Amina said they had initially planned to have only two children but later had a third after her husband insisted. She also alleged that both domestic violence and infidelity began during the first year of their marriage.

She said she sought refuge in a neighbour’s house before calling her siblings for help.
“I had to call my younger sister and elder brother because the road between our house and my family house was lonely and dangerous at night. They came and walked me home.”
Amina said her family had never supported the marriage from the beginning.
“From the onset, my family didn’t approve of the marriage because they saw things I wasn’t seeing. They noticed some questionable behaviour, but I didn’t listen.”
She added that after hearing about the incident, one of her brothers, who serves in the military, became angry and sent some military officers to the house.
According to her: “They didn’t meet him at home.”
The judge immediately responded that such action was unlawful.
Amina replied: “That didn’t happen eventually because he wasn’t around, so we let it slide……See More
