This Fight Is Not Over; Lebanese People Continue To Be Subjected To Forced Displacement -Tlaib

According to a report by Al Jazeera on June 5, 2026, US Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib from Michigan has pledged to continue her efforts in Congress to restrict President Donald Trump’s authority to support Israel’s “unjust invasion” of Lebanon. This comes despite her resolution receiving backing from fewer than a quarter of members in the House of Representatives. She maintained that the outcome would not deter her from pursuing legislative action aimed at limiting US involvement in the conflict.

“I am grateful to the 90 members of Congress who joined me and my sister-in-service Delia Ramirez in voting to put an end to US support for these war crimes and mass atrocities,” Tlaib said in a statement. She expressed appreciation for those who supported the measure, insisting that their votes reflected concern over the humanitarian situation in the region. However, the resolution failed to gain broader approval within the chamber.

Tlaib also criticised her colleagues who did not support the initiative, arguing that “far too many of my colleagues continue to fail to recognise the humanity of the Lebanese people”. She maintained that opposition to the measure demonstrated a lack of urgency in addressing the crisis affecting civilians in Lebanon.

“This fight is not over. The Lebanese people continue to be subjected to violent forced displacement, illegal military occupation, and deadly US-funded bombs.” She stressed that she would persist in advocating for an end to US military support tied to the conflict.

Her vote and statement came a day after the House passed a separate resolution seeking to limit President Trump’s ability to conduct military operations against Iran without congressional approval, highlighting growing debates in Congress over war powers and foreign intervention.
