Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed deep concern over rising insecurity in Nigeria while reacting to recent violent attacks and kidnappings under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Dalung said the killing of an Oyo State teacher, M. O. Oyetunde, left a strong emotional impact on him. He described the teacher as someone who showed courage and dignity even in the face of death, noting that he identified himself and his profession during the tragic incident.
Dalung also pointed to the continued kidnapping of schoolchildren in different parts of the country, saying many have remained in captivity for days without rescue.
He argued that the situation reflects the broader suffering of ordinary Nigerians, who can be attacked or abducted anywhere without protection. According to him, criminal groups operate freely in forests and remote areas, while security efforts appear more focused on monitoring citizens who express critical opinions about the government.
He questioned why security agencies are unable to track and stop armed groups responsible for repeated attacks, stressing that the government must do more to protect lives and restore public confidence.
In his words, “The last incident which has been so graphic on my mind and has raptured my emotions is the death of M.O Oyetunde, the teacher who faced death with courage and dignity, pronouncing his name and proudly his profession as a teacher…..See More
