Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has again raised questions over the emergence of Kingsley Chinda as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
Odinkalu made the observation in a post on his social media handle while reacting to Chinda’s reported emergence as the APC candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.
According to him, there was no public announcement of any defection by Chinda at the time he reportedly contested for the APC ticket.
“It seems clear that any defection by Kingsley Chinda was not announced anywhere. As at the time he ran to be governorship candidate of APC in Rivers State, he was also Minority Leader of the House of Representatives,” Odinkalu stated.
The rights activist argued that the development raises questions because the Minority Leader position in the House is traditionally occupied by members of opposition parties.
He further described the situation as troubling, suggesting that the issue deserved wider attention within political circles.
Odinkalu also criticised opposition parties, alleging that many had remained silent on the matter despite its political implications.
“Even worse is the fact the opposition parties, so-called, are all averting their gaze from this issue, possibly as their own excuse for when the political whataboutery begins,” he added.
The comments come amid growing discussions surrounding political alignments and party movements in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chinda, who currently serves as Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, remains one of the prominent political figures from Rivers State, and recent developments around his political future have continued to attract attention from observers and stakeholders…..See More
