“A Bag Of Rice Does Not Solve Hunger For The Rest Of The Year -Rotimi Amaechi

According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, May 23, 2026, former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that the first priority of his administration if elected president would be the enforcement of the rule of law.

Amaechi made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Friday night, where he spoke on governance, political accountability, and the condition of democracy in Nigeria.

Amaechi explained that establishing order through the rule of law would be the foundation of effective governance.

According to him, without proper enforcement of laws and respect for institutions, national development would remain difficult to achieve.

He said that leadership must begin with strengthening systems that ensure fairness, accountability, and stability across all levels of government.

He added that law and order are necessary for creating an environment where citizens can live and work without fear or uncertainty.

During the interview, Amaechi also made comments about the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He alleged that the government is allowing economic hardship to persist in a way that influences the behaviour of voters.

According to him, the issue of hunger in the country is being linked to political strategy, where economic pressure is believed to affect electoral choices.

He stated that many Nigerians are experiencing difficult living conditions, which has become a central concern in political discussions.

Amaechi further argued that poverty and food insecurity cannot be resolved through temporary political gestures during election periods.

He stated that providing short-term relief to citizens does not address the deeper structural issues affecting the economy.

In his view, long-term solutions are required to improve living standards and reduce dependence on short-lived political incentives.

He explained that sustainable development should focus on improving productivity, job creation, and access to basic services rather than temporary distribution of goods during campaigns.

He also commented on the nature of political competition in Nigeria, raising concerns about the treatment of opposition parties.

Amaechi questioned why opposition groups often face challenges in operating freely within the political space.

He suggested that a healthy democracy requires equal opportunity for all political parties to participate without interference.

According to him, limiting opposition activity weakens democratic growth and reduces public confidence in the electoral process.

He said, “A bag of rice does not solve hunger for the rest of the year. If APC is as strong as they claim, why are they not allowing opposition parties to thrive?……See More
