Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, has reacted after sharing a publication reporting that former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, promised to turn Nigeria around within two years if elected president.
The report, originally published by PUNCH Newspaper, was reposted by Olayinka on social media on Friday, sparking conversations among political observers and supporters of opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amaechi had reportedly made the promise during the submission of his nomination form at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, where he assured party members that he had the capacity to reposition the country within a short period if given the opportunity to lead.
Reacting to the development, Olayinka mocked the growing trend of ambitious political promises from presidential hopefuls, suggesting that politicians were now competing over who could fix Nigeria faster.
“Oga Amaechi, you don late,” Olayinka wrote.
“Mr ONE SHOE alias AGBOTIKUYO already promised us TWO YEARS. Except Amaechi can do it in ONE YEAR,” he added.
The media aide further joked that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could eventually promise to transform Nigeria in six months.
“But if Atiku come and promise SIX MONTH nko?” he wrote.
Olayinka also mentioned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in the sarcastic commentary, humorously suggesting that the governor might reduce the timeline to just three months.
“Ibadan Gomina General fit say him own nah THREE MONTHS,” he added.
He concluded the post with the Yoruba slang, “Awon 41-20 gbogbo,” a phrase commonly used to mock exaggerated claims or unrealistic promises.
The exchange has continued to generate reactions online as politicians and opposition figures intensify consultations and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 presidential election…….See More
