NDC: I’m Not Going To Dismiss Obi And Kwankwaso; They Are Formidable In Their Own Right -Momodu

In a recent interview on News Central TV, Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), spoke on opposition unity, candidate strength, and the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, Momodu stated, “I’m not going to dismiss Obi and Kwankwaso; they are formidable in their own right.” He made the remark while discussing the growing debate over who has the strongest chance of leading the opposition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next presidential election.

Momodu explained that political competition in Nigeria should not be reduced to dismissing opponents, but rather assessing their strengths, influence, and national appeal. He noted that democracy thrives when multiple credible candidates are allowed to compete on the basis of ideas and support base.

He further stated that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso remain powerful political figures with significant followings across different regions of the country.

Momodu also emphasized that opposition politics requires respect for all major actors, regardless of personal or strategic differences. According to him, underestimating any serious contender would be a mistake in a competitive democratic environment like Nigeria’s.

He added that political success in 2027 will depend on coalition-building, voter mobilisation, and the ability to connect with Nigerians across regional and demographic lines.
