According to reports by The Sun on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has distanced himself from the internal activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating clearly that he is not a member of the ruling party and therefore has no reason to interfere in its affairs.
Wike made the remarks while responding to questions regarding the screening of political aspirants within the APC. He explained that he was not informed about the party’s internal procedures and would not comment on matters that do not concern him directly. According to the minister, his attention remains focused on governance and the responsibilities attached to his office in the Federal Capital Territory.
The former Rivers State governor emphasized that he prefers to speak only on issues related to his official duties and matters that affect the administration of the nation’s capital. He maintained that commenting on the APC’s candidate screening process would be inappropriate since he does not belong to the party.
Wike also dismissed any suggestion that he should speculate about developments within the APC. He stated that he does not claim to know everything and avoids making assumptions about political processes outside his jurisdiction. Reaffirming his position, the minister stressed that his priority is delivering on his mandate and ensuring progress in the Federal Capital Territory rather than participating in partisan debates unrelated to his role.
