According to a report by Al Jazeera on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem has stated that the group’s weapons arsenal is not included in any discussions with Israel, stressing that it remains an internal Lebanese matter.
Speaking in a televised address, Qassem reaffirmed the organization’s position on resistance and regional developments, declaring that Hezbollah would continue its activities despite ongoing tensions.
“We will not abandon the field. We will turn it into hell for Israel,” he said.
Qassem outlined what he described as key national priorities that Hezbollah is willing to coordinate on with the Lebanese government. These include restoring Lebanese sovereignty through an end to hostilities, securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from disputed or occupied areas, the release of detainees, the return of displaced residents to southern Lebanon, and advancing reconstruction efforts.
He emphasized that decisions regarding arms and resistance fall solely within Lebanon’s domestic political framework.
“No one outside Lebanon has any say in the weapons, the resistance or the organization of Lebanon’s internal affairs,” Qassem stated.
He further clarified that these issues are not part of any negotiation process with Israel.
“This is an internal Lebanese matter and not part of negotiations with the enemy,” he said.
According to Qassem, once the outlined national objectives are achieved, Lebanon would then proceed to develop a comprehensive internal security strategy. He said this process would involve evaluating national capabilities and incorporating various elements, including what he referred to as resistance forces, into a broader defense framework.
The remarks come amid continued regional tensions and ongoing political discussions in Lebanon over security arrangements, state sovereignty, and the role of armed groups within national defense policy.
No immediate response was issued by Israeli officials regarding the statement. The situation remains closely monitored as diplomatic and security dynamics continue to evolve in the region……See More
