According to a report by Leadership, on Sunday May 10, 2026, Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of trying to dominate Nigeria’s political space.
Adebayo made the allegation during his statements after emerging as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 general elections, he expressed concern over what he described as growing political influence concentrated around the presidency.
He claimed that the president is not limiting his role to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alone, according to him, there is an attempt to extend influence beyond the ruling party into other political platforms across the country.
Adebayo stated that the situation raises questions about fairness in the political process and suggested that such a trend could weaken the independence of other parties and reduce healthy competition in the political system.
He further argued that Nigeria’s democracy needs strong opposition parties that can operate freely without external control or interference, he warned that democracy may suffer if political dominance is allowed to spread unchecked.
The SDP candidate maintained that political power should be balanced among parties and stressed that no single individual should be seen as having control or influence over multiple political platforms.
