Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on May 10, 2026, Peter Ameh spoke about the government takeover of Jabi Lake Park and the effect it has had on residents and traders who use the area daily. He described the location as a public space where people from different social backgrounds gathered for exercise, relaxation, and business activities.
Ameh explained that he personally visits the park for exercise and often sees many people carrying out different activities there. He said the demolition and closure of parts of the area affected petty traders who depended on the park for their livelihood. According to him, many people appeared deeply hurt after losing their trading spaces.
He also referred to comments allegedly made by Nyesom Wike concerning the situation. Ameh questioned how security issues could be addressed while poor people were being displaced and claimed that Wike insisted anyone dissatisfied with the action could take the matter anywhere, including to God.
In his words, “Today, Jabi Lake Park has been taken over by the government. This is where I go to do exercise with a lot of people. I see people there. It’s a very big place, open to both poor and rich. When I saw them demolishing and blocking that place, I saw the pain in the eyes of those who are doing small and petty trade there. They’ve taken that away. How do you solve security when you keep oppressing the poor? And Wike is saying that anybody who likes, even taking it to God, that it has come to stay.”……See More
