In an interview with The Podcast Network, Joseph Otigba, a veteran of the Nigerian Civil War, spoke about the terrible conditions he and other soldiers faced during the war
Otigba said during the war he and other soldiers were rarely given cooked food. He stated that whenever they saw raw cassava or cocoyam in farms, they would quickly uproot and eat them.
Otigba also said he and other soldiers sometimes drank very dirty water because they were extremely thirsty. He said even when the water source had dead bodies inside, they still fetched it and drank because they had no other choice.
Otigba added that after the war he began to suffer serious health problems. He said he later experienced a minor stroke and also developed pneumonia
In Otigba’s words: “Once we see raw cassava we eat it, even cocoyam we pluck it and eat. Even we see some dirty water that dead body is there you are thirsty for water, you just fetch it and drink (sic)”…….See More
