A Nigerian mother identified as Mrs Vivian has shared a disturbing childbirth experience, alleging multiple cases of negligence during her pregnancy and delivery at a specialist hospital she believed would provide quality care.
Speaking on Unclog podcast with Aproko Doctor, she explained that she carefully selected the hospital because she wanted the safest possible environment for her first pregnancy. Instead, she said her concerns were repeatedly dismissed from the early stages.
According to Vivian, she suffered severe vomiting during pregnancy, but her symptoms were initially brushed aside as normal morning sickness until her condition worsened significantly.
Her most shocking claim came after she delivered through a Caesarean section. Weeks later, she reportedly discovered two separate incisions on her abdomen and demanded an explanation from the surgeon.
She said: “I asked the doctor why he cut me twice during my C-Section, he said he couldn’t remember.”
Vivian described the response as deeply upsetting, especially after enduring what she said was already a stressful labour process. She alleged that after her water broke, she remainedat the hospital for hours without proper monitoring before insisting on emergency intervention.
She also recounted difficult recovery experiences after surgery. According to her, when she complained of severe headaches, her concerns were not urgently investigated. She further claimed she later developed an infection around the wound site.
Beyond her own treatment, Vivian also raised concerns about the hospital environment, describing scenes of tension among staff whilenewborns were being cared for.
She said she decided to speak publicly not for sympathy, but to encourage women to ask questions, request proper explanations, and insist on safe medical care.
Her story has reignited conversations about accountability, communication, and patient rights within Nigeria’s healthcare system……See More
