In an interview on Diary of A Naija Girl, Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong spoke about how his father’s friend falsely accused his father of plotting to overthrow Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida’s government
Etim said his father’s friend got arrested for plotting a coup against Babangida and then falsely claimed that his father was also part of the coup plotters. He stated that this led to his father’s arrest alongside other soldiers accused of planning the coup
Etim said all those arrested were sentenced to death but his father’s sentence was later reduced to life imprisonment. He said that as his father’s friend was tied to a stake for execution, his father’s friend kept asking why his father (Col Effiong) wasn’t among those tied to the stake
In Etim’s words: “As they were tying my father’s friend to the stake he was saying, ‘Where is Effiong, why is Effiong not here?’. My Dad wrote a book about it and all of this is from the book because I was one year old at the time”…….See More
