My First Boyfriend Resented Me Because I Was Always Begging, Asking Him To ‘Please Send Me Money To Eat -Riyah Abdul

Ghanaian media personality Riyah Abdul has opened up about a difficult period in her life and the lessons she learned from a past relationship while struggling to build her career.

Speaking during an interview With Chude, Abdul reflected on how financial challenges early in her career affected her relationship and shaped her determination to become financially independent.

The presenter revealed that while she was still working in Ghana, her income was extremely low, which made it difficult for her to support herself. As a result, she sometimes relied on her then-boyfriend for financial help.

According to her, the situation eventually began to affect the relationship.

“At then in Ghana, my first boyfriend was amazing to me for the period of time that we dated, but the relationship got bad because I was like, ‘Oh, I’m hungry, please send me money to eat. Metro TV has not paid me, please give me something,’” she said.

Abdul explained that the constant requests for financial help eventually created tension between them.

“I felt like at some point, because we were both young, he got tired. So that now came to resentment and hatred,” she added.

The experience, however, became a turning point in her life. Abdul said it taught her the importance of having her own financial stability rather than depending on someone else.

“That taught me a big lesson that I can never depend on a man. If you give me, it’s a plus, but I want to have my own so that when I’m hungry I can buy. If you don’t give me, I will not starve to death,” she said.
