At 10yrs, I Drank My Father’s Whiskey, Went To Church And Started Preaching While Drunk -Bature

Reverend Christie Bature has shared a startling account of her childhood exposure to alcohol, revealing how she began drinking at a very young age due to her family environment and eventually stopped after a dramatic experience in church.

Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch on Glitch Africa Studio, Bature explained that her father, who struggled with alcoholism, introduced his children to alcohol early in life. According to her, drinking became normalised in the household, with each child exposed to alcohol from a tender age.

She recounted that her drinking escalated as she grew older, noting that she preferred stronger beverages such as brandy and whiskey. The turning point, she said, occurred during a Christmas Eve service when she secretly consumed a large quantity of whiskey before heading to church with her family.

“At 10 years old, I drank my Father’s whiskey, went to church and started preaching while drunk,” she said while narrating the incident.

Bature explained that after arriving at church, she joined her siblings to sing a special song. However, after the performance, she remained on stage and began speaking, quoting scripture while under the influence of alcohol. She added that she had little memory of the event, but was later told how the congregation reacted in surprise.

According to her, the realisation that she had behaved inappropriately in a place of worship became a defining moment. She said the experience made her conclude that drinking was harmful, prompting her to quit completely from that day.

The reverend noted that she gradually withdrew from alcohol without drawing attention, while other family members continued to struggle with addiction. She emphasised that the experience shaped her perspective on substance use and addiction…….See More
