According to Vanguard, the people of Umunze in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State are strongly opposed to being included in the proposed Orlu State. Engr. Ezekiel Iheazor, the President General of Umunze, expressed their concerns: “We’re shocked by the inclusion of Umunze in the bill for the proposed Orlu State. Such a significant decision cannot be made without consulting our community first.” While they support creating more states in the South East for fairness and justice, they insist it must involve thorough discussions with those affected.
“We have no cultural, traditional, or ethical ties with the people of Orlu. Therefore, we cannot be part of their state,” Engr. Iheazor stated. He emphasized the importance of respecting Umunze’s distinct cultural identity and conducting detailed consultations with its residents before making any decisions. “Our community cannot be arbitrarily included in a new state without our consent,” he added.
Engr. Iheazor urged his community to remain calm, assuring them, “Necessary actions will be taken at the right time.” The community also expressed confidence in their representative, Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, Adaejiejemba, to handle the issue effectively. This situation highlights the crucial role of cultural ties and proper consultation in the creation of new administrative regions, particularly in the quest for equity and justice in the South East.……..See More
