Nentawe Yilwatda, the national chairman of the APC, has spoken about the history and culture of his Ngas people, saying they are believed to have originated from the Kanem-Bornu Empire.
In a video shared by Trust TV, Yilwatda said when the Ngas people left the Kanem-Bornu Empire, they took a Quran with them.
Yilwatda stated that the Quran has been preserved for hundreds of years and is brought out every year during the annual celebration of the Ngas people before the ceremony begins.Yilwatda added that he is a Christian but some of his siblings are Muslims.
In Yilwatda’s words: “My tribe Ngas people are believed to come from Borno State. When we left the Kanem-Bornu Empire we left with the Quran, and every year at our annual celebration of my tribal Ngas people we bring out that Quran before they would start that celebration. This is a culture of hundreds of years but it is still celebrated by our people. It shows how common and how integrated we are as a nation”
