According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Thursdays, July 16, 2026, reports have claimed that the United States has used diplomatic intermediaries to seek a halt to Iran’s retaliatory military strikes after a series of attacks targeting U.S. military facilities and support sites across the Middle East.
The claims have not been independently verified, and U.S. officials have not publicly confirmed the reported communications.
According to the reports, Iran carried out a series of retaliatory operations over the past week against American military installations and logistical facilities in several countries across the region.
The strikes were described as a response to recent U.S. military actions involving Iranian targets.
The reports further alleged that on Monday, less than two hours after remarks by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, Washington sent a message through an East Asian country urging Tehran to refrain from attacking American military bases located in the Persian Gulf.
Two sources reportedly familiar with U.S. Central Command were also cited as saying American officials were surprised by the speed, precision, and scale of Iran’s military response. According to the reports, U.S. planners had not expected Tehran to launch retaliatory operations of that intensity.
The reports additionally claimed that a senior aide to General Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, informed a senior military official from the United Arab Emirates that Cooper had considered resigning on three occasions during the past week.
The source alleged that the commander ultimately decided against doing so because of concerns about how U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth might respond during a period of heightened regional tensions.
The reported claims have not been independently verified, and neither the U.S. Department of Defense nor CENTCOM has publicly commented on the allegations.
Iran has also not issued an official statement confirming the reported diplomatic exchanges……See More
