Otukpo-Nobi resident, Jackson Ocbeibi, has described the frightening moments he woke up to the sound of gunfire during an attack by suspected armed herdsmen on his community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV on Thursday, 16 July, 2026, Ocbeibi recalled that he had been asleep when the attack began. According to him, the sound of gunshots shattered the calm of the night, sending residents scrambling for safety. He said the confusion intensified as people ran in different directions to escape the attackers.
Describing the incident, he said: “I was sleeping by then and we heard gunshots. Some women and children statarted running and we were hearing them shout ‘Allah Akbar’.”
His account is one of several testimonies from residents who survived the reported attack on Otukpo-Nobi. Survivors have narrated how families abandoned their homes as gunfire echoed through the community, while others sought refuge in nearby bushes to avoid being caught in the violence.
The attack has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities in Benue State, where repeated assaults have displaced residents and resulted in the loss of lives and property.
