My Father Started Giving Us Alcohol At The Age Of 2 Just To See How We’ll Behave When Drunk -Bature

A Nigerian cleric, Reverend Christie Bature, has shared a deeply personal account of her early alcohol exposure, revealing how childhood experiences shaped her later stance on addiction and substance use.

Speaking during an episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Bature recounted that her father, whom she described as a heavy drinker, introduced alcohol to his children at an alarmingly young age. According to her, the practice was normalised within the family and even treated as a form of amusement.

“My father started giving us alcohol at the age of two just to see how we would behave when we were drunk,” she said, explaining that each child’s reaction was often a source of entertainment for adults in the household.

Bature noted that this early exposure created a pattern that affected all the children, many of whom struggled with substance-related challenges later in life. She described how what seemed like harmless fun gradually evolved into a serious issue, as repeated exposure led to increased tolerance and dependency.

She further revealed that she personally stopped drinking at the age of 10 after a troubling incident in church, where she unknowingly attended a service while intoxicated. The experience, she said, became a turning point that made her reconsider her actions.
