I Can’t Support Atiku Because At 81, He’s Too Old To Carry The Energy Of The Youths -Professor Chris Nwaokobia

Professor Chris Nwaokobia has explained why he believes he cannot support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that Nigeria requires a leader capable of connecting with the energy and demands of younger generations.

Speaking during an interview on the Mic on Podcast, Nwaokobia expressed concerns about age, leadership direction, and the future of Nigerian politics.

According to him, the modern political environment requires leaders who can match the pace and expectations of a rapidly evolving society.

During the discussion, he stated, “I cannot support Atiku in 2027 because at 81, he’s too old to carry the energy of the young people.”

He argued that leadership today goes beyond political experience and also involves staying connected with the realities and aspirations of younger citizens.

Nwaokobia noted that today’s generation operates in a highly sophisticated world where technology, innovation, and changing social realities demand a different approach to governance.

He suggested that political leaders must be capable of moving with the times and understanding the mindset of younger Nigerians.

He also pointed out that Atiku Abubakar has pursued the presidency for decades, noting that his presidential ambition dates back to 1992. According to him, there comes a point when experienced politicians should create room for a new generation of leadership.

He further argued that long-term political figures should focus on mentoring younger individuals who can continue their vision and legacy rather than remaining in active pursuit of power for several decades.
