Nollywood actress Adenike Sherifat Ayilara has opened up about a painful chapter of her marriage, revealing how years of childlessness and family tension eventually led to domestic violence after she finally conceived.
The veteran actress shared the emotional experience during an interview on the YouTube channel Abiola Adebayo1 TV, where she spoke candidly about her nine-year struggle to become pregnant and the unexpected turmoil that followed the long-awaited news.
According to Ayilara, the pressure to have a child pushed her to seek several spiritual solutions, despite eventually growing tired of the process. She explained that after years of unsuccessful attempts, she informed her husband that she no longer wished to pursue spiritual interventions in hopes of conceiving.
However, a visit to a pastor arranged by her sister introduced a troubling prophecy. The cleric reportedly told her she might not be able to bear children in her husband’s home, while also warning that leaving the marriage could bring lifelong regret. Surprisingly, Ayilara said she became pregnant just two months after receiving the prophecy.
The pregnancy, which should have marked a joyful turning point, instead triggered conflict within her home. The actress admitted that lingering resentment toward her mother-in-law played a major role in what followed. She revealed that her husband’s mother had previously told her she would never conceive, a statement that deeply hurt her during her years of waiting.
Feeling vindicated after becoming pregnant, Ayilara said she began verbally confronting and insulting her mother-in-law over the earlier remarks. The situation quickly escalated, leading to violence from her husband.
