According to a report by The Sun on Tuesday 28th April 2026, media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has defended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, insisting that he should not be subjected to attacks by supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, given his past political support for Obi.
Momodu, in a post on X on Monday, said it was wrong for Atiku to be “bullied,” recalling that he gave Obi his first vice-presidential ticket during the 2019 general election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He argued that Atiku’s gesture played a significant role in Obi’s rise on the national political stage and should not be ignored in current political discussions.
Speaking further during an X Space conversation, Momodu reflected on the 2023 presidential election and the controversy surrounding its outcome; He questioned narratives suggesting that Obi was unjustly denied victory, arguing that electoral outcomes should be viewed within the broader national context.
He also touched on Nigeria’s political structure, stating that no southern candidate could win a presidential election based solely on regional popularity, a comment that sparked debate among participants.
Momodu reaffirmed Atiku’s continued relevance in Nigerian politics, noting that he remains a major contender after finishing second in the 2023 presidential election; He added that the 2027 election could likely be Atiku’s final attempt at the presidency.
He also called for restraint in political discourse, warning against abusive language and personal attacks directed at political figures, including President Bola Tinubu.
Despite differing opinions, Momodu maintained his support for Atiku, describing him as a consistent and resilient political figure who has remained active in Nigeria’s democratic process……See More
