Wike Didnt Intentionally Destroy PDP Root Of The Crisis Lay In Atiku Refusal To Allow Southerner -OYC

According to a report by Leadership published on Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has commented on the internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the involvement of Nyesom Wike—now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor—has been widely misunderstood.

The group’s president, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, said Wike should not be seen as the individual responsible for the PDP’s ongoing internal struggles. He argued that the party’s challenges cannot be solely attributed to his actions or intentions.

Instead, the OYC maintained that the real source of the conflict stemmed from disagreements over zoning, particularly the inability of the party to allow a southern candidate emerge during its decision-making process. According to the group, this dispute deepened divisions among party members and worsened internal tensions.

The council stressed that the issue is fundamentally about fairness and equitable political representation rather than personal grievances. It added that neglecting regional balance played a significant role in destabilizing the party structure.

The OYC also extended its observations to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that similar patterns may be emerging within its ranks. It pointed out that both the party’s national chairman, David Mark, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—who is reportedly interested in the party’s presidential ticket—are from northern Nigeria.

According to the group, such a configuration could lead to internal friction if not properly managed, warning that perceived imbalance in leadership positions may trigger disagreements and weaken party cohesion.

In his remarks, Igboayaka said:

“Former Governor Nyesom Wike did not deliberately destroy the PDP; the crisis originated from the refusal to allow a southerner emerge as candidate.”…….See More
