Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), explained his absence from the opposition national summit held in Ibadan ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said Nigeria requires genuine political alternatives rather than recycled leaders who have repeatedly failed the country.
He stated that his decision was intentional and rooted in ideology rather than personal disagreement. He believes political gatherings like the Ibadan summit often repeat old patterns of elite negotiation without real change. He criticized participants, describing them as long standing politicians who have dominated Nigerian politics for decades. He accused them of contributing to corruption, stagnation, and weak governance. He referenced that many attendees have previously held top positions and still represent the same political class. He argued that their collaboration under opposition banner does not necessarily translate into meaningful reform.
He insisted that the AAC will not participate in any political arrangement that recycles the same figures under a different opposition label. Instead he said the party is committed to building a people driven alternative based on integrity, accountability and genuine transformation.
