Former banker, Mr Johnson Adeniji, has shared how bankers were highly respected in society during his younger days in the profession.
Speaking in an interview with PUNCH on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the 80-year-old said people trusted bankers because they were seen as honest, disciplined and responsible individuals.
According to him, bank managers were often given leadership positions in social clubs and community groups because many people believed in their integrity and ability to make good decisions.
Adeniji added that being a banker at the time came with honour and public respect, unlike what is seen in some parts of society today.
