According to a report by the Punch on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the family of Chimuanya Eke, a man reportedly shot during an attack by suspected terrorists in Eziobodo community in Owerri, Imo State, has continued to recount the painful circumstances surrounding his death.
Speaking about the incident, the deceased’s younger sister, Goodness Eke, said her brother managed to speak with family members while receiving treatment at the hospital before he later died from his injuries.
She explained that Chimuanya had gone out on his motorcycle to purchase medication for his child when he unexpectedly encountered armed men along a lonely road near a bushy area.
According to her, the victim described the terrifying scene and narrated how several people were attacked during the incident.
She said: “Before my brother died, he said he saw someone being dragged into the bush, but he sped away to safeguard himself”
Goodness further stated that despite attempting to escape, her brother was still shot by the attackers and left struggling for survival for a long period before assistance eventually came.
She alleged that local vigilantes tried to seek help from security operatives to move the injured victim to the hospital, but the response was delayed, worsening his condition.
The family also accused the hospitals they visited of failing to provide urgent medical attention quickly enough despite the critical state of the victim and the large sums spent on treatment, scans and medications.
According to her, the tragic incident has left the family devastated, especially considering that the deceased was married with five children and still had many aspirations he hoped to achieve in life.
