According to Aljazeera News, Iran poured cold water on prospects for a swift diplomatic breakthrough with the United States on Saturday, with a foreign ministry spokesman stating that talks are not on the verge of a deal.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Esmaeil Baghaei said that despite ongoing indirect negotiations mediated by regional partners, significant gaps remain between the two long-time adversaries.
The comments mark the most cautious assessment from Tehran in recent weeks, as speculation had grown over possible progress on a limited nuclear or prisoner exchange agreement.
“Peace negotiations with the US are not close and it’s difficult to say if a deal will be reached over weeks or months, Baghaei told reporters, urging patience and stressing that Iran would not rush into any accord that fails to fully protect its national interests.
The spokesman added that while dialogue channels remain open, fundamental disputes over sanctions relief and Iran’s nuclear enrichment activities continue to block a final understanding. He reiterated that any deal must be verifiable and respect what he called Iran’s red lines.
