Media personality Dele Momodu has defended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar amid growing political debates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding to a supporter who urged him to back a different political alliance, Momodu questioned the claim that Atiku’s ambition would harm the country. He argued that Atiku has always participated in politics peacefully and has never encouraged violence in his pursuit of leadership.
In a post via X, Momodu emphasized that in a democracy, everyone has the right to support any candidate of their choice without facing pressure or criticism. According to him, trying to force people to abandon their preferred candidate goes against democratic values.
He also described Atiku as an experienced and influential figure who has played a major role in Nigerian politics for many years. Momodu noted that Atiku has helped mentor and support younger politicians, giving many of them opportunities to grow at the national level.
The media figure further called for respect in political discussions, stressing that disagreements should not turn into personal attacks. He maintained that supporting Atiku should not be seen as wrong, just as others are free to support candidates like Peter Obi or Rabiu Kwankwaso.
In his words, “When did Alhaji Atiku Abubakar tell you heavens will fall if he does not run. Atiku is a consummate democrat who has never pursued his mission in politics, violently.”
