A Lagos-based mother has shared her emotional story, revealing the challenges she has faced while caring for three of her children who are battling a long-term illness.
In an interview with Punch Newspapers, she explained that her children were born healthy but later developed serious medical conditions after a visit to their village in Oyo State. According to her, the illness began affecting them at different times and gradually worsened over the years.
In her words, “Three of my children can no longer walk or feed themselves. They have been sick for more than 20 years, and doctors say nothing is wrong with them. I have been caring for them alone for years.”
She disclosed that the condition started in 2001, and despite multiple hospital visits, there has been no improvement. The children, now aged 38, 35, and 28, are completely dependent on her for daily survival. She explained that they are unable to perform basic activities such as walking, eating, or taking care of themselves without assistance.
The situation became more difficult after the death of her husband in 2014. Since then, she has carried the responsibility alone without consistent support. She described the burden as both physically demanding and financially overwhelming.
Now, she is appealing to the public for assistance. She expressed hope that support from well-meaning individuals could help provide better medical care and improve her children’s quality of life.
