Human rights advocate and past presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has voiced his worries regarding the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while questioning the timing and type of public responses to the matter.
Sowore made these statements during a conversation broadcasted by Symfoni TV on Monday, April 13, 2026, where he discussed the ongoing discussions related to the selection of the INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan.
In the interview, he mentioned that he had earlier shared his doubts about the appointment, referencing insights gained from a previous meeting.
He remarked, “All this noise about that INEC chairman has been discussed before. I already told you that his head of security was put in place by someone from the villa. His spokesperson was in the spotlight a month ago. When I visited him, I left and said this person cannot be trusted.”
He also challenged the recent increase in criticism, implying that worries about the chairman’s supposed political bias had been mentioned before: “So now you have discovered your voice and are claiming oh this man is on Twitter supporting Tinubu.”
Sowore added his thoughts on the kind of political backing shown on social media, suggesting that these expressions may not be the most significant issue: “The individuals backing Tinubu on Twitter pose less risk than those who are silent on the platform.”
He broadened his comments to include other officials, pointing to various influential roles within the government: “Indeed, this individual is the central bank governor. Is he active on Twitter? And he is the 37th governor for the election, so sometimes we just need to take things seriously.”……See More
