You’re 11 Years Older Than Jonathan If Reports About Your Age Are To Be Believed-Fani-Kayode To Atiku

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, April 16, 2026, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has sharply criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for referring to former President Goodluck Jonathan as a “young man” in recent remarks.

Fani-Kayode expressed his disagreement through a post on the social media platform X, questioning the consistency of Atiku’s statements regarding respect, seniority, and political conduct.

He argued that Atiku’s comment appeared contradictory when compared to his past political behaviour and interactions with other senior figures. Fani-Kayode stressed that public statements by political leaders should demonstrate consistency, particularly on issues of respect, tradition, and leadership ethics.

The controversy stems from Atiku’s earlier statement in which he declined to respond to Vice President Kashim Shettima, citing age difference, experience, and cultural norms that demand respect for elders. Atiku had described such public exchanges as inappropriate and inconsistent with traditional values.

Fani-Kayode, however, challenged this position, suggesting it did not align with Atiku’s previous actions in political disputes involving older and more experienced figures.

He pointed out what he saw as a selective application of principles, accusing Atiku of applying standards of respect only when convenient.

In his response, Fani-Kayode wrote:

“I am astounded by the sheer arrogance of your words. This is all the more so given the fact that you are only 11 years older than him if reports about your age are to be believed.”

The exchange has added to the ongoing political discourse among Nigeria’s prominent figures, highlighting tensions and contradictions within the opposition ranks ahead of future elections…..See More
