A senior Iranian academic has cast doubt on recent claims attributed to Donald Trump regarding a potential nuclear-related agreement with Iran, warning that such statements may be part of a broader political strategy.
In a post shared on his verified social media account, Seyed Mohammed Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, dismissed assertions that Iran had agreed to halt nuclear development or surrender enrichment capabilities as part of a ceasefire arrangement. He described the claims as “nonsense,” suggesting they lack any factual basis.
Marandi argued that the rhetoric could be a pre-emptive move by Trump to later accuse Iran of violating commitments that were never formally made. According to him, such a narrative would provide justification for escalating tensions or even renewed military action.
His comments come amid heightened speculation over diplomatic maneuvering involving Iran’s nuclear programme, a long-standing point of contention between Tehran and Western powers.
