Former presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has announced his intention to contest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming elections, while urging Nigerians, particularly young people, to unite in pursuit of political change.
Sowore made the remarks while addressing journalists following the bail proceedings involving BLord and VeryDarkMan. The statement was aired by TV Platinum on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Speaking on the political landscape, Sowore stated, “We have elections coming on and I want to defeat Tinubu. And they are not happy about the fact that they don’t have real opposition, that the real opposition will be us.”
He further alleged weaknesses within other opposition groups, adding, “Because they have crippled their fellow opposition people and we, yes, they are all traders. You know them but I want to announce to you that Nigerians can do it.”
Calling for collective action, he said, “We can defeat these people. Young people can decide today as we are speaking. You are watching me worldwide. We can put aside our differences and defeat these people.”
Sowore also addressed unity within the movement, stating, “If anybody differs from us as to how to defeat these people, then the person is not with us and I want to say one last thing before anybody.”
He concluded by explaining his motivation for entering the presidential race, emphasizing inclusivity and equal opportunity. According to him, “The reason why as a known nonentity I decided to run for president is because I want the child of nobody in this country to become somebody.”
He added, “That’s it. There’s no family that is assigned the presidency of Nigeria. And there’s nobody that needs any experience to be president.”…..See More
