In a recent statement via his official X account, public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against what he described as ignoring mounting political pressure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
”PBAT: Don’t pretend away the tide confronting you: You have every reason to be not only scared but jittery, afraid with accompanying sleeplessness, because all is not well, the center cannot hold and there is an irreparable crack in the house and at the larger polity,” he wrote.
In his post, Shehu suggested that the current political climate reflects growing uncertainty within the country’s leadership structure and argued that recent developments indicate deeper cracks within the system, warning that the situation may be more serious than publicly acknowledged.
Reacting to comments attributed to President Tinubu expressing confidence about the 2027 elections, Shehu cautioned that such public assurances may not reflect the realities on the ground, according to him, there are clear signs of unease, both within the political space and across the broader society.
He stated that the administration is facing increasing challenges that require urgent attention, including internal divisions and declining public trust, these, he said, are issues that cannot be dismissed or managed through public messaging alone.
The analyst further described the situation as one that demands honest reflection and decisive leadership, he warned that ignoring warning signs or attempting to project calm without addressing underlying concerns could worsen the crisis.
Shehu stated that political stability depends on transparency, responsiveness, and the ability of leaders to confront difficult realities and suggested that the current moment presents an opportunity for the government to rebuild confidence if the right steps are taken.
