We Dug A Shallow Grave And I Was Buried In It But When They Asked Me To Come Out, I Couldn’t -Adeisa

Yoruba Nollywood veteran Najeem Adeisa, well known by his stage as Ina Njo, has spoken out about a terrifying near-miss on set.

The actor opened up about his early days in the industry and how they pulled off special effects without the use of technology in an interview with FeelRightNews TV.

Everything, he said, even risky scenes, was done by hand in those days.

One film’s producers cast Adeisa as the hero who returns from the dead to rescue his people.

The crew had to dig a little hole in the ground to accommodate the scene. After placing him inside, they covered him so that just his head was visible.

The next step was to cover his face with sand. Things started to go wrong at that point.

He was beckoned by the crew to rise from his grave and deliver his lines. However, the pebbles were too heavy. He was completely paralysed.

The actor went on to say that he completely forgot what he was meant to say at that same time. Later on, he saw that the sand’s weight and roughness were causing his skin to peel off his body.

“There was nothing like effects, unlike today, when we were shooting films,” he said. Adding effects was a manual process back then. The part of the man who rose from the dead to rescue my people was something I really wanted to portray in the film. Consequently, they dug a shallow hole for me and buried me in it, leaving just my head exposed. They then had me stand outside while they sanded my face; however, the sand was so heavy that I was unable to utter a word. Even my lines slipped my mind at that very second.
