According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has dismissed reports suggesting a strained relationship between him and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Elliot stated that he remains firmly aligned with both President Bola Tinubu and Gbajabiamila, stressing that he has not fallen out with any of his political associates despite public speculation.
The lawmaker, who represents Surulere Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made his position known during an interview conducted in Pidgin English on Tuesday.
He addressed ongoing rumours that there had been political tension or disagreement between him and Gbajabiamila.
According to him, such claims do not reflect the true nature of his relationship with the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, whom he continues to regard as a senior political mentor and leader within the All Progressives Congress.
Elliot explained that political relationships often experience misunderstandings, but such situations should not be exaggerated or misinterpreted as a complete breakdown in communication.
He noted that in politics, differences in opinion are normal, but respect for leadership and party structure must be maintained.
He added that he still considers Gbajabiamila a father figure in his political journey and does not see any reason to treat temporary disagreements as permanent divisions.
The lawmaker also responded to questions connecting him to broader political tensions involving the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the presidency.
He declined to go into detailed explanations regarding those issues, stating that he prefers to focus on his legislative responsibilities.
Elliot explained that his priority remains the stability and progress of his party, the All Progressives Congress, as well as efforts to strengthen support for President Tinubu’s administration at the grassroots level.
He further stated that the current political atmosphere has made him more reflective and more committed to his personal beliefs.
According to him, the challenges within the political space have drawn him closer to his faith and strengthened his determination to remain focused on his duties.
He emphasized that despite any form of political tension or disagreement circulating in public discussions, his loyalty to his party remains unchanged.
He said, “I’m still a party member. I will follow my party. My prayer is that President Bola Tinubu returns as president. I want him to leave a legacy that will amaze people.”……See More
