In a recent interview on TVC News, Dominic Alancha, Chairman of the Northern Ethnic Nationalities Forum, spoke during a live political discussion where he reflected on Nigeria’s leadership history and the role of former office holders in shaping current opposition narratives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the interview, Alancha stated, “Amaechi was minister for 8 years during Buhari’s tenure, and El-Rufai was governor 8 years.” He used the statement to highlight what he described as the long years of political dominance enjoyed by some key figures who are now active in opposition politics.
He referenced Rotimi Amaechi, noting that he served as a federal minister throughout the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He also mentioned Nasir el-Rufai, who he said governed Kaduna State for two consecutive terms, also spanning eight years.
Alancha argued that these extended periods in public office should be considered when evaluating the current political stance and criticisms coming from such figures. According to him, leadership experience comes with responsibility, and public expectations do not end once individuals leave office.
He suggested that the transition from government to opposition should be guided by national interest rather than personal political grievances. He further stressed that Nigeria’s democratic process benefits more from constructive engagement than from what he described as confrontational political rhetoric.
The forum chairman also linked his remarks to the broader 2027 political landscape, noting that voters are increasingly paying attention to the track records of political actors rather than just their current positions or statements.
