Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the extremist group Boko Haram first appeared in 2002 while he served in office and that the administration acted quickly to suppress it.
According to report by DAILY POST on Wednesday April 15 2026, Atiku recalled that he and then‑President Olusegun Obasanjo met and agreed on a coordinated response to the emerging threat.
He stated that their joint actions were decisive and that by the time they left office the group had been driven underground. He added that Boko Haram only resurfaced after their administration ended.
According to what Atiku Abubakar said, “Let me remind you, Boko Haram started in 2002 when we were in office. And the president and I met and decided that we would put it down decisively. And we did. By the time we left, there was no Boko Haram. Boko Haram was on the surface after we left.”…..See More
