According to a report by The Sun on Monday, May 18, 2026, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has stated that he is unafraid of contesting against Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Adebayo, who hails from the South West like Tinubu, said the SDP would not base its campaign on ethnic considerations during the election.
He explained that many Nigerians struggling with hunger, unemployment and the increasing cost of living are more focused on survival than regional affiliations.

According to him, while the APC is mainly interested in winning elections, the SDP is more committed to policies and programmes that would improve the standard of living of Nigerians across the country.
Adebayo also stressed the need for accountability among party officials, adding that proper procedures and due process must always be followed in the handling of party matters and governance issues.
He further alleged that the ruling APC was making efforts to weaken opposition parties through infiltration and internal disruption.
Speaking on the education sector, he faulted recent policy adjustments, describing them as moves aimed at lowering educational standards in the country.
He argued that quality education is important for national growth, development and security, insisting that access to education should remain free and available to all Nigerians.
